How do you think about the future? I don’t mean whether it will be bright or dark. But What IS the future to you, philosophically? Is it something real, that just needs to be played out, or is it something non-existent, until it becomes present? Think about it. The ramifications are great. And I don’t mean whether or not things are predetermined. That’s a topic for another time.

It seems to me that by participating in grace, which St. John calls ‘eternal life’, one sees the future more from an eternal perspective, sharing in God’s perspective, as something very real that just needs to play out in time. On the other hand, the natural fallen man tends to see the future as a non-existent construct of the mind.

With the latter perspective, it’s easier to support abortion. It’s easier to deny the big picture and see the tiny embryo as only a temporary thing, negating its potential flowering into the future. But those who see reality from an eternal perspective see the tiny embryo as a mature adult who has yet to realize his/her potentiality. To simplify, without grace one recognizes only the physical and temporal, similar to how other animals are able to recognize only the here and now. With grace, however, one sees actuality and potentiality together as one, as simply different phases of being.

If any of this is true, it’s just another example of how people remain spiritually and intellectually blind absent of being in union with God. Hence, it follows that the wholesale slaughter of innocents will continue until one of three things occurs: a cultural revival, a wholesale destruction that brings mankind to its knees, or the second coming.
