Whenever one takes a journey there are essential and non-essential things to consider. The essentials are necessary and cannot be changed while the non-essentials are optional and changeable by nature.

The journey through life to heaven is no different.

Therefore, there is no such thing as progressive Catholicism or conservative Catholicism with regard to the essentials of faith, morals, and worship. These can be found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

With the non-essentials, there’s a wide variety of customs and devotions that may be employed, which are deemed acceptable and not contradicting what is necessary for salvation by the authority Christ established in the Magisterium.

We are not left orphans. God our Father makes things clear for us.
