Just a reminder to all, including myself, of a few simple rules of thumb regarding the universal call to agape:
.
– Use things and love persons, never vice-versa.
– Hate the sin and love the sinner, never hating or loving both.
– Love your friend, and your enemy.
– Be loyal to the Truth, not to persons when they don’t follow it
– Trust fully God alone. Everyone else is imperfect and will periodically fail.
– Never marry someone who loves you more than God.
– Life is love-giving and love is life-giving. In God, love and life are one. When we attempt to split them, primarily with contraception, the consequences are more powerful than splitting the atom.
– There will never be peace without justice nor justice without truth. Only in truth is unity possible.
– Criticize words, acts, ideas, and movements, but don’t attack persons.
– The command to ‘love your neighbor’ isn’t emotional and doesn’t mean liking your neighbor’s faults or choices. It does mean to will his good, especially with regard to his eternal destiny.
– Everyone who’s inherited the wounds of original sin will experience moral failings. The sacrament of Confession is absolutely priceless.
– As a boat is lost at sea without an anchor or compass, so too are people lost in the world without God and His law. ‘Post-Christian era’, which rejects truth and life (Jn 14:6), is, by definition, an age of insanity and a culture of death.
