Some see man’s historical belief in nature-deities as proof that religion is superstition. The contrary is actually true. It is a sign God is real.

The religious sense in man is innate, as natural to him as hunger and thirst, since he is both spiritual and physical. Since original sin darkened the soul, man lost spiritual sight of God and erroneously began to worship parts of the creation rather than the Creator through either pantheism or polytheism: Idolatry is a consequence of sin.

To recover the true religion, Abraham was led into the the land of Israel, like Adam was into the Garden. Then, Jesus, the ‘new Adam’, came down to enlighten the world and restore and reorient the creation to its Creator, the Source of life and Ground of all being. For mankind this means right relationship through the true religion. of ethical Monotheism formed in and by Christ.

“Long lay the world, in sin and error pining ’til He appeared; then the soul felt its worth.”

What remains is our individual response – a second chance in the new Adam to say Yes to God.
