Christ and Diversity

While God created a diversity of species, ‘diversity’ as the liberal elite define it never seemed to concern Christ. While He taught the inherent dignity of all human beings, He chose twelve white Jewish males to be the pillars of authority in His Church, one of whom he commissioned to lead it. There have been 266 popes so far, all of whom have been Caucasian Christian males.

While it is impossible for women to be priests by virtue of the order of creation, there’s nothing impeding a man of a different race from ascending to the papacy. (There’s one African bishop I hope one day will be successor to Francis.) Yet, it is at least noteworthy that Christ has permitted almost 2020 years of His Church to have no so-called ‘diversity’ in the papal office. I have a feeling the saints in heaven have not been protesting at the throne of the Father that Christ’s body on earth, informed and animated by the Holy Spirit, is racist, backwards, and bigoted. It needs purification from scandal, yes, but that’s largely due to it being too diverse – allowing for men with same-sex attraction disorder to be ordained, even though it has been strictly prohibited by papal order.

God created a diversity of people in personality types, talent, intelligence, senses of humor, athleticism, artistic gifts, beauty, virtue, spirituality, faith, political opinion, and much more. While mankind is also diverse in race and ethnicity, it is not of great importance that all communities include this kind of diversity.

  1. Well said, Paul! The Holy Spirit gives His gifts to those He knows are prepared to use them for the good of His Church.
As for the “diversity” mantra: when I taught in college, it was a slogan I questioned. What, exactly, does “being different” contribute to the general good? Any society benefits most when the most qualified (based on agreed standards) are sought, found, employed, and promoted.
