The Sacrilege of Consummation without Covenant

With regard to covenants, it’s an essential and moral imperative that full and irrevocable consent precedes real union of the parties involved. For example:

Jesus consented to the Father in the garden of Gethsemane (Lk 22:42) before He gave Himself completely on the cross;

Christians give their total consent (sometimes through parents & godparents) to God in baptism with responses of “I do” before they become one-flesh with their divine bridegroom in the Eucharist (1 Cor 11:27); and

Women give their total and complete consent to their man (and vice-versa) before they become one-flesh in the marital act.

Whether it be sacrificial, sacramental, or sexual union, it is an abomination to reverse that order.

The Father would never request the Son sacrifice His body without His consent.

Jesus would never force Himself onto anyone sacramentally without their consent, and

A real man never requests sexual union from a woman without first marrying her.

The sacrilege of consummation without covenant is disordered, irrational, and a grave injustice. The total gift of self makes sense only as a consummation or renewal of the exclusive irrevocable covenant already exchanged and ratified.
