“Love” Isn’t Love

We are reminded by secular progressives during their pride month that “love is love.” This of course is kept vague and ambiguous as a bumper-sticker slogan, to avoid the scrutiny of reason. Without further definition, one must presume it means that sexual expression may be perverted in any way desirable as long as there is attraction, tenderness, and/or sentiment –  i.e. “love”.

It is curious, however, that those who proclaim “love is love” admit that acts of pedophilia, bestiality, and incest are not love, nor are adultery, necrophilia, and lusting after pornography — even if they are expressions of attraction, tenderness, or sentiment.

Why the contradiction, and why aren’t these love?

The answer to the second question is so simple any child with a minimal understanding of the birds and the bees can see it. These behaviors contradict human nature and the natural ends of the acts performed. If love was just an expression of one’s inner feelings of tenderness and attraction, all these behaviors would be love. Yet, all sane people know they are not.

How, then, does the “love is love” crowd resolve their contradiction?  In short, they don’t. Power in numbers is what they seek, not reason, consistency, or truth.

The truth is that all things are composites of form and matter, even love. No feeling or act of the will (form) is love if contradicted by matter that does not correspond to the objective ends and goods of human nature. This is why sodomy and fornication, like the other perverted expressions of counterfeit love above, can never be love. In fact, since they are a misuse of the sexual self, they are always objectively abuse.

Real love is when the will is aligned with a physical expression that corresponds to the objective good. Sodomy contradicts human nature despite any subjective desire or attraction for it, hence it can never be love.  Feelings and attractions can be disordered. They often are. When they are, expressing them through sexual expression is never love.
