The Psychological Disorientation of ‘Pro-choice’

One fundamental element is missing in those who can’t see that killing the preborn at any stage of development is an abomination. There is nothing in their spirituality enabling them to lift their minds above the limits of time and space in order to interpret it properly. Let’s go beneath the surface.

This vision of reality is the mark of non-human animals. They can’t grasp that reality includes not only the present but also the future, and not only what’s here but also what’s there. The scope of non-personal creatures consists solely in the immediate here and now, with no concept that ‘there’ is our potential ‘here’ and ‘then’ is our potential ‘now’.

That being said, someone who supports abortion usually thinks of a preborn child, especially a very young one, as nothing but an embryo. No future, no potential, just an embryo with no future. And the less developed the embryonic human being is, the easier it is for the abortion supporter to support abortion.

However, what it means to be human includes the mind recognizing potentialities as real. Kansas exists even if I’ve never been there. A tiny embryo is a complete human being even though we can’t see it with our eyes. In fact, all of us are an embryo, fetus, infant, child, adolescent, and adult all in one – who presently live in one of these stages. I was an embryo, I am an adult. It’s the same I.

An adult is an embryo matured; an embryo is an adult in potential. And just as Kansas exists even if I don’t experience it, each of us are complete human beings of each stage of development, even if we never experience them. This is why killing a human being in his embryonic stage may actually be worse than killing a human being at his adult stage: All human beings are equal in dignity and the adult human being has lived out more of his life.

When I see a baby I don’t just see a baby. I see a child, adolescent and adult; a teenager, parent and grandparent. In this respect, those who support abortion think more like non-human animals, maintaining a one-dimensional reality. It’s the sign of a serious defect in the psyche/soul, a very sad phenomenon.
