Ideology and Late Night TV

I watched a little SNL tonight. At what point did late night TV become the entertainment division of the Democratic National Committee?

Going back to the 70’s, Johnny Carson was down the middle with his comedy, as was Leno, and Letterman was when he was on NBC. The angry crotchety liberal version of Letterman only appeared five to ten years before his retirement. Saturday night live used to poke fun at President Ford as well as Carter; H.W. Bush as well as Clinton. Up until around 20 years ago late night TV was not blatantly ideological, as it is today. What changed?  Why is there no more ‘down the middle’?

Perhaps because there is no longer a middle; no common ground anymore for all to stand on. The cynicism and relativism of progressive ideology infecting many through the media and academia has permeated so deeply that there is no longer is a common consensus on what it means to be human.
