To use an analogy of fiction, many animals in Noah’s day refused to get on the ark, saying, “I will live my own way and God will be proud of my good works.” Eventually, in the midst of their lives of compassion and being pillars in their communities, they were wiped out by the deluge.
How many people today believe their lives are acceptable to God while refusing to get on board the new Noah’s Ark of the New Covenant — the Church? Like the dead animals of Noah’s time, these people are convinced they are “good people” doing good things. The problem? They decided to do it their way, not God’s, and refused to become living members of His rescue boat. If you’re a Catholic and not attending Sunday Mass each week and regular Confession, you’re not on the Ark. If you’re following the world and ultimately yourself, you’ve rejected the vehicle God provided to safely move you from the perils of this dangerous demon-infested world into heavenly glory.
The world is deluged by the demonic. Living outside the new Noah’s Ark of salvation, i.e. ignoring one’s religious obligations to God and the precepts of His Church, will lead to eternal death. Insisting God will save you outside His established barque of St. Peter, which is the new Noah’s Ark, because you’re a good person – is like the giraffe who declared he’s a good animal and didn’t need the Ark to survive. It’s foolish, self-delusional, and ultimately self-destructive.
