Fallen Humanity and the ICE Tragedy

If you want to see one of the greatest weaknesses in fallen humanity, just observe social media and the talking heads describe the ice-shooting tragedy in Minnesota. It’s a Rorschach test, in that virtually everyone who votes Democrat sees it one way and those who vote Republican see it the other.

People are making judgments by erroneously allowing the will to inform the intellect, rather than vice-versa.

IMO, the initial videos in themselves are inconclusive. The last shots are the most questionable, since the agent had already moved to the side of the car.

Let’s wait for the investigation to be completed.

Further, it’s also a sad commentary on fallen human nature that most people’s initial immediate reaction to the news story focused on blame and defense of one’s ideological viewpoint rather than on sadness and mourning of the tragic loss of an image of God. Seeking justice comes afterwards. Even if we don’t agree with anything a person does or stands for, and even if their demise may have been of their own fault, we must still recognize with reverence the dignity of the unique, unrepeatable person that God made in His own image, whom He willed to form in His own likeness.

Lastly, a person’s death at the point in their life’s journey when he or she may not be in union with God and His will is especially dreadful. There’s nothing more unfortunate than dying before one would have surrendered to the Spirit, allowing Him to lead their soul into repentance and salvation. Potentially short-circuiting this process of redemption is the ultimate tragedy.

Pray for all the souls involved.
