Clash of World Views

If you were to ask any child who has even a rudimentary understanding of life, he or she would be absolutely horrified by the notion of abortion; and terrified that anyone could possibly consider doing it. Only in adolescence, when one dabbles in moral evil and is formed by it, does this attitude begin to change. Without a belief in a merciful God, it leaves a person with two options: hate yourself and be defeated, or hate yourself and embrace your sins in the attempt to live with yourself. Both destroy you from within; the latter also tends to destroy others in the process.

I watched an abortion debate podcast tonight between two articulate young adults. I was impressed with the lack of denial from “abortion rights” supporter. She acknowledged the life and humanity of the unborn child. She wasn’t a science-denier like so many are. Her argument came down to the claim that a woman’s bodily autonomy trumps a child’s life. Anyone with a properly formed conscience recognizes how evil this is; yet, it follows logically from her world view. It’s sadly fascinating how many people hold this position on abortion, due to the chaotic world that gives rise to it.

Although intellectual and moral reasoning alone can see abortion is murder and murder is always wrong, it seems that today, religious faith is necessary to care. Not necessarily to see the truth, but to care about the truth. In a post-Christian world people have no problem justifying murder.

I’ve said it a million times, but it bears repeating: Generally speaking, pre-Christian pagans did not challenge reality at its core or call moral evil good like today’s post-Christian progressive Leftists do. We live in unique times when half the people are struggling with the normal things fallen man struggles with while the other half has lost its sanity, moral compass, and sense of the sacred due to endarkened souls.

One can appreciate more the Divine Mercy apparition and devotion when pondering this phenomenon. Only in knowing God’s mercy and forgiveness can people begin to see again, and care again, in order to stop rationalizing selfish desires. It seems those stories of Jesus curing the blind in the gospels has this as the underlying meaning.
