Two basic religious truths:

1) The evil of sin is infinitely greater than we can imagine.
2) The mercy of God is infinitely greater than that.

Two psychological truths:

a) Ignorance of #2 leads to self-loathing, shame, and fear (Gn 3:8).
b) Ignorance of #1 leads to arrogance, pride, and obsession (Gn 3:12).

Two-fold spiritual truth:

Hatred of self (a), and of God (b), reside in every unredeemed heart and in every culture of death.

The two-fold antidote:

1. Humility (We are not God) and
2. Faith (only in His will can we find happiness)
